Dialogue with Head of the Federal Chancellery Wolfgang Schmidt
Europe's security, global supply chains, societal topics of debate– all these issues and more were discussed at a high-level panel discussion with CEO Lars Wagner and Wolfgang Schmidt, Head of the Federal Chancellery.
At MTU’s invitation, numerous participants from politics and industry came together in the heart of Berlin to witness this “Sky Talk”. A key point of the discussion was Europe’s defense capability. Aviation in particular plays a prominent role here, in particular through its clear commitment to Franco-German cooperation. “The cooperation between Germany and France has not only grown historically, but is also future-oriented,” said Lars Wagner. “Together, we are driving forward innovations that not only revolutionize the aviation industry, but also contribute to Europe's security.”
The need for new partnerships as an alternative to dependency on China was discussed as a way to minimize risks for the European continent. Federal Minister Schmidt emphasized: Europe must become more sovereign and independent, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election. This applies to defense issues as well as in economic terms. Germany has a pioneering role in Europe in this respect. We have initiated a comprehensive transformation throughout many crises. The fact that Germany is an attractive industrial location is also demonstrated by the fact that 13 new semiconductor plants will be built here.”
Another explosive topic of discussion was the increasing nationalism in Germany. In this context, Wagner once again emphasized MTU’s open, value-based corporate culture, which focuses on diversity, tolerance and cohesion. “International exchange on the basis of open markets significantly contributes to our prosperity – especially here in Germany. Our economic future depends on the creativity of bright minds and the expertise of colleagues from all over the world. It is important to think boldly and seize opportunities for the future.”
