MTU Maintenance provides services for the KC-10 Extender engine CF6-50

• U.S. Air Force choose team that includes MTU Maintenance
• Projected MTU sales: more than 300 million euros

Munich, Germany, October 5, 2009 – The U.S. Air Force (USAF) has awarded a team that includes MTU Maintenance a nine-year contract to provide Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) for its fleet of KC-10 Extender refueling tanker aircraft. MTU will provide engine depot maintenance, engineering, field service support and engine condition monitoring for the fleet of 204 CF6-50C2 engines flown by the USAF. Over the life of the agreement, MTU expects the deal to generate sales in the amount of more than 300 million euros ($500 million).

The tanker and cargo aircraft is part of the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command arsenal and is supporting anti-terrorist and humanitarian operations around the globe. As a part of the engine maintenance team with its partner Chromalloy, MTU Maintenance will act as the engine depot maintenance provider as well as provide the technical program management for engine maintenance. The team is led by Northrop Grumman Corporation; another partner is AAR Corporation, Wood Dale, Ill.. The total indefinite delivery and indefinite quantity contract has a total ceiling value of 2.5 billion euros ($3.8 billion).

MTU will primarily perform the work in support of prime contractor Northrop Grumman at its Canadian facility in Richmond, BC. Weingartner: “This contract is a strong message of support for the expertise and quality of work of MTU Maintenance Canada. It represents an excellent opportunity to illustrate to the USAF that MTU Maintenance is an industry leader in supporting airlines, military and governmental  operations”.
