MTU Aero Engines hosts its 4th International Supplier Day
• Event in Munich attended by over 100 supplier representatives from three continents
• MTU Supplier Award conferred to seven companies
Munich, October 14, 2011 – For the fourth time around MTU Aero Engines, Germany's leading engine manufacturer, has honored suppliers for their outstanding performance. The MTU Supplier Awards were presented on Wednesday, October 12, on the occasion of this year's Supplier Day to seven companies. The prize winners received their awards at Münchner Künstlerhaus from Dr. Rainer Martens. "This award is a substantial part of our supplier management," explained MTU's Chief Operating Officer. "Peer-to-peer, close cooperation between our company and its suppliers is a growing priority, for both sides." The award was given in four categories: costs, quality, logistics and cooperation.
Martens pointed out that MTU in the last two years managed to develop and mature revolutionary technologies for the geared turbofan engine, such as the efficient high-pressure compressor and the high-speed low-pressure turbine, and to successfully bring these technologies to market—on the engines to power the A320neo, CSeries and Mitsubishi Regional Jet. "Over the next few years MTU and its entire supply chain will focus on establishing stable manufacturing processes to be able to cope with rapidly increasing production volumes. We have already brought together excellent players and developed a winning game plan. What we need to do now is to fight as a team and tackle the challenges ahead," he called on MTU's suppliers for their continued support.

MTU invites its major national and international suppliers to its Supplier Day every two years. This year, more than 100 senior-level representatives from 48 different companies had accepted the invitation. Discussions and presentations revolved around MTU's future growth. Theodor Pregler, MTU's Senior Vice President Procurement and Logistics, said: "We have big plans for the years ahead and we are well aware that we can reach our ambitious targets only if we exchange information in a cooperative and open spirit and in a timely manner, and if are willing to bring about improvements in a concerted endeavor. We will continue to make every effort to identify and realize cost reduction potentials. This is the only way we can ensure the future competitiveness of MTU, its partners and customers. I am particularly pleased to welcome new suppliers from China and India at this year's Supplier Day."
