British Airways subsidiary sends CF34 engines to MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg for shop visits
• Seven-year contract concluded with BA CityFlyer
Ludwigsfelde, Germany, June 17, 2010 – MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg has scored another success: British regional airline BA CityFlyer, a wholly-owned subsidiary of British Airways, will send all its 22 CF34-8E and CF34-10E engines powering its fleet of Embraer 170 and 190 jets to the German engine specialists for repair, maintenance and overhaul. The seven-year agreement is valued at some 20 million euros; it includes options to add more engines powering Embraer 170s or 190s the air carrier has on option and provisions for an extension of the term of the contract.
Dr. Stefan Weingartner, MTU Aero Engines President and CEO, Commercial Maintenance, commented on the occasion of the contract signing: "The order goes to show how much trust our renowned customer British Airways places in our CF34 capabilities. The program is a main pillar of MTU Maintenance's business, and by the same token of our Ludwigsfelde-based affiliate's activities."

MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg's portfolio includes all versions of the CF34 engine, including the newest variant, the CF34-10. The company in Brandenburg is one of the major MRO shops for this type of propulsion system. It specializes in engines in the lower thrust and power categories and industrial gas turbines and boasts the only production test cell to conduct development and acceptance testing of the TP400-D6 engine powering the A400M military transport aircraft. Assembly of the TP400-D6 production engines is the sole responsibility of the Ludwigsfelde facility.
