MTU Maintenance signs 12-year GE90 contract with United Airlines
Hannover, April 9, 2019 – MTU Maintenance, the global leader in customized solutions for aero engines, has signed a twelve-year GE90-115B maintenance contract with United Airlines. The fly-by-hour contract covers the maintenance, repair and overhaul of 49 engines powering the airline’s B777-300ER fleet and includes MTU proprietary repairs as well as engine trend monitoring.

United Airlines is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The airline operates over 770 mainline aircraft. “MTU Maintenance is a highly experienced MRO provider,” says Kris Bauer, Senior Vice President Technical Operations, United Airlines. “We look forward to receiving excellent GE90 support, building on our existing relationship and laying the foundation for further collaboration.” United Airlines and carriers operating as United Express carry out approximately 4,800 flights a day to 353 airports across five continents. In 2018, United and United Express operated more than 1.7 million flights carrying more than 158 million customers.
MTU Maintenance is the global leader in customized solutions for aero engines. It has close to 40 years of engine MRO experience on nearly 30 engine models – including the GE90-110 /115B -- and performs over 1,000 shop visits per year at its worldwide locations. GE90 shop visits are performed in Hannover, Germany, where MTU’s team specializes in flexible and customized workscoping for these engines.
