MTU Maintenance renews contract with major customer Statoil

·       Maintenance package for LM industrial gas turbines

·       Contract worth 200 million U.S. dollars

Ludwigsfelde, April 26, 2016 – MTU Maintenance, one of the world’s leading providers of maintenance services for commercial engines and industrial gas turbines (IGTs), has extended its contract with Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil for its  General Electric LM industrial gas turbines. The seven-year agreement valued at more than 200 million U.S. dollars. Under the deal, MTU Maintenance will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) for parts of the largest commercial LM IGT fleet in the world,  which is operated offshore on Statoil’s oil platforms.

Statoil has been entrusting MTU Maintenance with its LM series industrial gas turbines for many years, MTU having been responsible for the MRO of its LM2500, LM2500+ and LM6000™ series IGTs since 2006. Alongside the provision of conventional MRO services in Ludwigsfelde near Berlin, the package also covers on-site services and the supply of spare parts. “We are proud to be partnering with Statoil, one of the world’s big players in the oil and gas sector,” explains André Sinanian, Managing Director and Senior Vice President of MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg. “With its wide variety of innovative services, our IGT center of excellence offers its customers substantial benefits. IGTs are a key pillar of our business, accounting for over a third of our revenues. We are looking forward to supporting Statoil with the expertise and experience in LM industrial gas turbine maintenance we have gained over many years.”

MTU Maintenance has been in the IGT business for over 35 years; industrial gas turbines  have been part of its Berlin-Brandenburg facility’s portfolio for the last 25 years. In 1995,  MTU Maintenance parent company MTU Aero Engines combined all IGT maintenance and repair activities under one roof at its Ludwigsfelde shop. Its customers’ IGTs are used in both onshore and offshore applications for power generation, marine propulsion and in compressor stations. The facility is a licensed level IV depot for all types of GE LM2500™, LM2500+, LM5000™ and LM6000™ gas turbines. The shop boasts one of the world’s largest and most advanced on-site IGT test cells: It counts among the few test cells worldwide in which LM2500™ and LM6000™ turbine tests can be performed under actual operating conditions. MTU Maintenance’s team performs the bulk of the repair and overhaul work itself. All processes undergo continuous development and improvement in order to maximize the availability and reliability of the gas turbines – for the benefit of its customers.
