09.03.2010 | MTU Aero Engines to benefit from Republic Airways’ contract for CSeries Aircraft
New contract win for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower® PW1000G Engine: Republic Airways has signed a purchase agreement with Bombardier Aerospace for 40 CSeries aircraft with options on up to 40 additional aircraft. The twin-engined airliner is exclusively powered by the Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1000G engine. MTU Aero Engines is a major stakeholder in this innovative, next-generation propulsion system. The overall contract covers more than 160 engines, if all options are exercised. For Germany's leading engine manufacturer it could translate into sales of over 200 million euros at list price.

MTU Aero Engines Holding AG has fully met its business forecasts for the financial year 2009. This was announced at the company’s annual press conference on February 24, 2010. MTU reported revenues of € 2,610.8 million (2008: € 2,724.3 million), in line with the targeted level of around € 2.6 billion. MTU generated an operating profit (EBIT adjusted) of € 292.3 million (2008: € 331.0 million), which is slightly higher than the upwardly revised forecast of approximately € 290 million. Net income amounted to € 141.0 million, compared with a targeted € 140 million for 2009 and a reported result of € 179.7 million in 2008. MTU significantly exceeded its free cash flow forecast: at year-end, free cash flow stood at € 120.2 million (2008: € 123.6 million), or 20% higher than the guidance of € 100 million.

For MTU Aero Engines, the 2010 Singapore Airshow proved a profitable event: Just a few days before the event officially opened, Germany's leading engine manufacturer had already benefited from a major V2500 engine order placed with International Aero Engines (IAE); now the engine consortium has announced more contracts it received over the course of the trade show. For MTU, which holds an 11-percent share in IAE, these deals translate into sales worth about 65 million euros.

Just a few days before the Singapore Airshow (February 2 to 7, 2010) opens its doors, MTU Aero Engines received a major order, which will be worth about 270 million euros. The German engine manufacturer benefits from an agreement concluded by Australian Jetstar Airways with International Aero Engines (IAE) for the purchase of V2500 engines and after-sales services. The total value of the deal with the airline, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qantas Airways, will be around 2.5 billion euros. Since MTU has a stake of approximately 11 percent in the V2500 program, its share in the business will be some 270 million euros.
